In Australia, the S&P/ASX 200 climbed 0.5 percent to 3281.80. The last time the index closed higher was on Oct. 22.
Copper for March delivery rose 0.5 percent to $1.023 a pound in New York trading. BHP Billiton, the world's third-largest copper miner, gained 0.8 percent to A$12.16. Rio Tinto Group, the world's No. 4 producer, added 0.4 percent to A$36.99.
Mining companies in Indonesia also advanced, boosting the Jakarta Composite Index by 1.4 percent to 689.203, its highest since January 2000. PT Timah, the world's biggest integrated tin miner, jumped 12 percent to 2,625 rupiah.
Tin for delivery in three months rose to the highest since July 9 on the London Metal Exchange last week. The price of the metal has increased 48 percent this year on the exchange.
