Interesting item on Sky news .... a report about a women who has started a course of Avastin in U.K. for bowel cancer. Seems her tumours have shrunk and the drug is reported as extending life by 5 months . ( always a chance of a complete cure they say )
Cost of Avastin privately is £ 18000 , but as chemo is administered at the same time total bill is £ 50000.
Perhaps this helps to explain in part DoH 'S enthusiasm for TroVax ... maybe OXB's contribution to the trial is supplying drug for free ( cost to OXB £ 4 million for manufacture ?) p.s. Item finished by saying there may be up to 40 drugs available in the next few years ( cancer or otherwise not specified ) and the moral dilema for NHS cost vs. extension of life.
