Thanks very much to all who responded to my query about success rates - very helpful.
marwalker: yes that is what AK said that big pharma said. But interestingly OXB did not test for CD8 in the early studies. Said, if I remember rightly, that was because of lack of material (but couldn't that have been included in the protocol if considered important, that's always puzzled me, perhaps OXB did not think it that important at that time - maybe they already thought that humoral immunity was key or at least the major arm of the response). I don't think we know whether people who make lots of antibody also generate lots of CD8+ cells, or whether people tend to do one or the other in response to Trovax. Interesting, but perhaps not a lot more can be deduced at the moment - at least OXB will no doubt be giving it their best attention which will do for me!

Lets say hypothetically that AK knows how good he feels OXB is going to be - if he believes in himself and his pipeline, that last thing he is going to want is to be snapped up too cheaply and quickly before OXB gets to develop the value in the portfolio....I dont think he would want to show his hand too quickly, perhaps this could be the reason not included earlier....the value has to be developed steadily for OXB to grow shareholder value and to keep faith of institutions for the long haul....
AK is a bright guy - he is not going to want to create such a great pipeline and see someone else make most of the money from it....
Because AK is such a bright guy, and potential suitors will want to keep him involved, I do not expect any hostile bids that materialise to succeed... I would expect AK to make a "once more into the breach....follow me I am the future Bill Gates of biotech....I have a dream where no one need fear the word Cancer...." type rousing speech to rally the troops and fight off any aggressors if that situation arose....
my money is firmly on this for the long haul with AK independently at the helm.... much prefer to be tackling multi Billion (ker-ching!) markets as a small successful niche player, than as a small part of a behemoth.... much higher potential % growth.....
also why I like the idea of some potentially more solid institutional support which will have come in on the back of the placing...
