ONE BAGGERS OR MORE FOR 2004?
madskt - Wed, 31 Dec 03 :
Heresn a few that I'm looking to do well over the next 12 months.
Hornby - CR said it all above really. Believe the story and you can only see this going one way. Currently 1155 to buy.
Alterian - doesn't necessarily fit the growth story, but this is th eyear that Alterian has to perform. They were set to breakeven this year and do 10p EPS in 2004 but have revised this down. Still expect profitability and maybe EPS of 5p. Underpinned by about 35p in cash, at 70p currently to buy, you're getting phenomenal projected growth for very little.
CRC Group - these were in my 2003 stockchallenge and prformed abysmally for me. But I think after their nightmare year of aborted takeovers and 2 profitsn warnings, a refocus on what they do best in 2004 should see their share price continue in a northerly direction. Currently 124 to buy.
Not exactly a small cap, but I expect LLoyds to do well also. Its yield is about 8% which IMO needs to halve. This will either happen if they cut the dividend or if the price goes up. I'm banking on an increasing share price to bring the yield down as they focus on their core business. Done OK for a FTSE 100 stock in recent weeks rising 10% plus. Definitely not going to see the meteoric rises of some of the small caps here, but for a plodding dinosaur and a bit of diversity, LLOY is in my portfolio. Currently 447.5p to buy.
Albermarle & Bond - doesn't seem to get a great deal of coverage, but a cracking little business - pawnbroking. Good growth in turnover/profits/eps - may not double but I expect it to do well - currently 101 to buy.
I also keep an eye on smallcap gold explorers. These definitely do noy fit the requirements of profitable growing companies, but if you like a little risk, take a scan over these two.
HPD exploration - a Brancote II in the making. Soon to be renamed Patagonia gold and to focus all their efforts on prospects in Chile and Argentina. Superb management with an excellent track record - I was fortunate to get into these at the beginning at 1.5p - now 18p to buy, but as long as the prospecting goes well in South America in 2004, we should make headway from here. Further down the line, I'm looking for a 3 figure share price.
Centamin Egypt - permits, permits - when will they get them?? Currently 13p to buy, plenty of upside...
Also suspect that Dana Petroleum at 250p to buy will do well in 2004.
Others that I like have been mentioned above - CKN, CTO, FSJ, MBY ....
