Shares in Meridian Petroleum, which debuted on AIM today, sold like hot cakes with a flock of institutional investors buying into the oil and gas exploration minnow.
Fidelity picked up a 50% stake in Meridian, with the likes of JP Morgan, Carmignac Gestion of France, Winterflood, Leopold Joseph and Brewin Dolphin also grabbing shares.
Shares in Meridian were placed at 30p, raising £2.3 million for the company. They closed at 35p after Meridian revealed its 27B well on the Emery Hudson licence near Lake Michigan in the USA was producing four million standard cubic feet of gas per day.
Tony Mason, Meridian’s chief executive, set up Mason last year with his own funds and supporting capital from the UK’s second biggest listed hedge fund group RAB Capital.
Mason, who served in the Parachute Regiment as a major before entering the world of corporate finance 10 years ago, owns 44.5% of the issued share capital with RAB owning 24.45%.

So if there are approx 56,593,193 shares in circulation:
RAB now has about 13 million
Mason has 23 million
Fidelity has 20 million?
JPM, WINS etc have a small stake.
And 2 million floating around in PI's hands?
Fascinating.............
