There seems to be some debate about whether Toyota and Fujitsu Ten area actually saving weight or adding it. The fact that Toyota awarded the design a 'Weight Saving Special Award' surely inficates that it's the concept of the design that is being praised not the product. Does anyone really think Toytota is dumb enough to make such an enormous PR boob? No. I would like to suggest it can mean ony one thing...........
The use in the celing is just the first applciation of the 'direct drive' in Toyota cars because it was the easiest to implement quickly and enabled Toyota to be first to market with direct drive in cars. Being first to market means Toyota can forever claim to be the pioneers of direct drive audio in cars. Just as it was first with the useable, mass market, hybrid powered vehicles.
It is therefore logical to conclude that Toyota have praised the design teams for a solution which will at some point role out into door installations, dashboards etc etc. This of course would be the manifestation of the weight savings they are praising.
It is for these reasons that this is such fantastic news. The most forward thinking car producer in the world has 'tagged' NXT tech with an eco freindly badge.
