PACH M3697 - re your "I did not see any AGM statement so I simply based royalty rates on the standard compulsory licence range (see CIPA guidelines). Nice to know that the figure is much higher and that NXT seem to be gaining some negotiating clout. "
You make the point - we don't know what NXT get so its no use quoting. Any company that has IP of commercail value will (or should) have done their homework so they can negotiate with the buyer. This is company and IP specific and will take account of whether the IP is something no one else can offer (or effectivley offer to satisfy the same requiremt a different way). Obvioulsy the goldilocks case is where the company satifies the world market requirent and locks everyone else out and the function can't be provided another way. This is clearly the ideal bargaining postion! Even MSFT arn't in this ideal position but were 1st to see opportunity and have scale by the earlybird advantage.
NXT is sort of in this goldilocks category although not quite. For example SoundVu allows the "glass" to be the speaker but of course conventional speakers can be placed on the front panel of a display device. So there are other ways of providing the function in most case althoughg there may be situations where it is the only solution such as -watertight sound transducers for toys re Mattel if they ever hit the streets (currently being researched by them). The "sort of category" includes large touch screens, large screen mobiles (for obvious reasons as real estate is not needed for conventional transducera) and car panel transducers. For these it comes down to marketabilty of product with the NXT based design over te current.
Clearly with any knew technology it has to be accpetable to the industry and initially they would not have had a strong lever to get a good deal on. But a few pence as opposed to a few pounds can generate big cash if the end numbers of product are large. So overall better to leave numbers out unless there is specific and verifiable statements on what NXT get - after all its only opinion. And on opinion its said the only worthwhile opionion is from someone who doesn't have an interest. But why wuould anyone on this thread not have an interest - either to set a low figure or high figure. So I suppose its good counsel to be beware of anything stated unless its verifiable to the NXT company. If you do find such please post to us
Have a nice day.
