Makes me laugh - the city life, you eat or you get eaten. It's a zero sum gain so one way to make sure your kind are doing well is to make sure the others are doing worse than you. Make sure their jobs suck, make sure you get the credit for their work, make sure you're the one seen to be enjoying yourself to the max on company cards eating the best food and drinking the best wine etc- being seen with the right people. Until one of them stomps all over your life, which is just a game - so you still have to laugh....
