Wildrover,
I think that the point that Edinburgh Oil And Gas Plc EDG was the best performer of 2001, which was not spotted by any major tabloid at 20p to my knowledge underlines several issues to me:-
1) Most tabloids just pump their favourite PR companies shares and are IMHO used as a conduit so institutions can dump their shares from private placements onto unsuspecting punters (behind every tip is a tap).
2) Serious winners are well run companies, tightly held, relatively illiquid with tight free floats so rise is geared on limited supply versus unlimited demand.
3) Real winners are not tipped extensively in Newspapers, you need to find them before they are tipped by tipsters, hence DYOR.
4) BB commentators are in many cases better sources of accurate info than Newspapers, Journos invariably get it wrong or elaborate.
5) Resource sector plays can be very rewarding.
I notice GeraldJ spotted EDG very early on, well done that man.
Best regards
Ashley
