I am an Ex Lattice man and i can see many people leaving the gas side of the firm due to their loss of earnings after bringing in sub contractors to cover emergency work.If any of you have ever rang Lattice, the majority of the time the engineer would have just cut off the supply or the individual appliance and you would have had to contact your local Corgi regd engineer to call and repair the faults found.Lattice were told to make major cost reductions and Mr Haddon the boss man wanted to bring in a stagger pattern making the transco staff work till 10pm.This has been totally rejected and in the next few days Acas will give their opinion on the matter.By bringing in the 10pm finish it would mean calling out standby engineers far less saving the company millions. The transco staff have now shot themselves in the foot as they didnt expect the subbies to do as good a job as they are doing and many are now on the brink of throwing in the towel playing directly into NGTS hands, saving millions in redundancy payments and pensions. Some Transco operatives were earning in excess of 40k and to be honest for what they do they have been paid far too much for the past 8 years and ought to be grateful that they have earned that sort of money when their counterparts at Centrica were hammered virtually straight away after the split.I have a lot of friends at Ngt who think the grass is greener on the otherside and i have warned them that its not as easy as they think out there.I can see the whole gas emergency callout service been looked after by Corgi regd
personnel overseen by NGT but not direct labour.Everyone seems to think that there will be a safety issue here but everyone involved in the gas industry has to sit competency exams every 5 years,so everyone who is Corgi regd has passed the desired elements to be able to work on gas safely.NGT will save a fortune if the workforce start throwing the towel in and for that reason the shares look a safe bet.
