"Oil majors BP and Shell declined 2.3 per cent and 2.1 per cent respectively, succumbing to a bout of profit-taking despite continued strength in crude oil prices. US Nymex crude futures traded as high as $32.73 in overnight trade, the highest level since December 2000, as the four-week old strike in Venezuela began to cut into US supplies. In London February Brent crude futures surged 77 cents to $30.38 a barrel."
