Andy: I agree. I don't think any AIM share can be described as low risk, let alone oil and gas.

Well I certainly disagree there, although I would agree that oil and gas exploration, along with diamond exploration, ranks about as high a risk as there can be in resource juniors listed on AIM.
There are, however, many much lower risk explorers, in precious and base metals for instance, as well as the multitude of other companies in other sectors.
AIM is a success, IMO, and not as risky as some think provided you do some research, and position size correctly.
Sadly many people do neither.
