Second quarter 2007. Hurrah!!!! I don't think that the market have the slightest inkling what an impact this will have on MDW income. It will of course take a bit of time to get going - everything new does - but given the massive (and increasing) drive for more care by PCTs this will be huge. It will obviously also have a big impact on "one stop prostate clinics". We often get referred patients with a single raised PSA but you shouldn't recommend a TRUS biopsy on the basis of one raised PSA - a second confirmatory value is required. This is a right pain in the bum since you have to sen them off for another PSA, review the results and then arrange a biopsy if still raised all of which takes time and hassle. If you do it there and then - it genuinely becomes a one stop clinic. AND - it will be a highly attractive test to offer in private practice!!!!
