Machoolahan's "Algorithmic Trading Thread"

machoolahan - Fri, 22 Dec 06 :

Nice one Dave, this thread is a real success thanks to the regular cracking postings from the regulars on this most frankly ridiculous, most utterly addictive, hobby. Plus some welcome drop-ins and new faces. Cheers to all.

Best performing share of the year for me was.... wait for it... SRG. £8k profit. Used to work for the buggers even. And look at the SRG thread, one post a fortnight - not sure if there's a lesson there. Hot money sucks might be the one.

O+G on AIM has been a bummer, made and lost and made and lost so many times in this sector I don't know my arse from my elbow anymore. Roughly evens overall perhaps, but with yet less hair. VOG, CHP, PANR, COP, MAX, SEY, AST, PCI, EME, IAE, FEP, DGO, GPX, EEN, EEL(!), GOO, PELE - just come up with three or four random letters and chances are it will spell out the EPIC of an oil company I've slapped the odd tenner on in 2006.

Thought for 2007....

....true and yet utterly unfathomable, which is my poncey-failed-academic's way of saying, "big" money is bollocks - if you and yours are healthy and if you've got some booze in one hand and a bird in the other - you're doing alright, all the rest is tinsel.

Nevertheless let's take 'em for every penny in 2007, now the practice rounds are over. Yes it's a game - but I'm fucked if I'll let them win it :D

Have a cool yule, y'all.

Steve.

P.S. Most terrifying share of the year was EEL. Or any other year, come to that. Genuinely unpleasant to be in, any of the times I was in. Just berluddy awful, even when I was winning I felt ill. (Note to editors - EEL is worth somewhere between a billion pounds and two pence).

P.P.S. Thread pick of the year was SOLA. Blimey.
