I don't see why what you suggest would not be a sensible way to solve this problem. But I imagine there are a number of ways to acheive the same result. I would suspect that extending it to higher quality footage is not the main problem here - or maytbe it is!
I am only guessing, but I imagine the larger part of the work may be around providing the functionality that customers used to dealing in higher quality / volume footage have come to expect.
The products Forbidden develops with their partners are I'm sure attracting a lot of interest, and I am confident they are talking directly to many larger scale clients than they admit to in public. Forbidden hinted as much in their response.
Mentorn kept quiet for a long while, to act as part-promotor for ForScene however they must be pleased with the result. And coming from a well respected member of the industry this can't be bad news at all.
I am sure that they will technically meet the requirements of these customers, and that this would in turn lead to demand further afield, which is good news for all concerned.
