Qatar targeting 45 LNG carriers worth $11bn - Lloyd's List - December 15 2006


The opening months of next year could witness another leap forward in Qatar’s growing presence in liquefied natural gas shipping, according to a report from the Middle East.

The Doha newspaper Gulf Times suggested Qatari LNG projects intend to “initiate” shipbuilding contracts worth more than $11bn for 45 of the largest LNG carriers in the first quarter of next year.

It said its source was the latest issue of the Qatargas publication The Pioneer. The report said that the contracts would involve the largest LNG carriers, implying further orders for 215,000 cu m Q-Flex and 265,000 cu m Q-Max vessels.
