Living Cheaper & Better Abroad
bbbb - Mon, 01 Jan 07 :
jenniferzz: a good reason for living abroad could be that some things are done in a fairer, more honest way elsewhere. The Inland Revenue in the UK, for example, can bungle an enquiry, drop it because of failure to comply with its own procedures, and then open a 'new' enquiry two years later which it can extend for another three years (thereby destroying a single-proprietor business). It can then backdate its findings to before the bungled enquiry, have them rubberstamped by lay people (the General Commissioners) by citing irrelevant 'case law,' and ignore any attempt to obtain redress by maintaining the pretence that an appearance of competence is more important than Revenue compliance with rules made by Parliament. Destructive incompetence covered up is rare elsewhere.
