UK's John Lewis says clearance sales up 11 pct

LONDON, Dec 30 (Reuters) - Unlisted British department store group John Lewis [JLP.UL] said on Thursday sales in the first three days of its post-Christmas clearance were 11 percent higher than in the equivalent period last year.
"The picture shows that we are experiencing the predicted strong clearance trading and we are extremely pleased that this initial period shows an 11 percent increase on last year," John Lewis said in a statement.
Cookware, bed linen and towels were selling particularly well, it said, along with cameras and digital audio.
