China alone is spending $200bn on green energy over 15 years. Not to be left out are LED light-emitting diodes, semiconductor chips in mobile phones and lap-top computers that glow with light when subjected to a charge of low-voltage electricity. The world is on the cusp of massive change as the world ditches its stock of stone age bulbs. LEDs last five years in traffic lights instead of six months. They can cut electricity bills by three quarters.
