LED - will these light up the portfolio?

To be fair, it's selected as one of 39 "great investments", and actually SOLA wasn't listed as one of them.

The thrust of the article was to look for investment themes in 2007, and then to look at companies with exposure to these themes. They opine that ordinary light bulbs are a technology that is too inefficient and inflexible for today's energy conscious world, and that LED's reduce power consumption by 90%, among other advantages. Apparently the US DoE forecasts that the US will replace more than half of its fluorescent and incandescent bulbs with semiconsductor LED lamps by 2010, by which time analyst group iSupply predicts that the global LED market will be worth $9.26bn [note, doesn't say what it is currently, which rather takes the power from that statement].

So with the theme of LED, it suggests 4 companies are in line to benefit
Dialight
LED
IQE (because its compound semi-conductors are suitable for LED)
TT ELectronics (patent for heat dissipation technology that can extend LED life)

I don't yet have shares in LED, just been watching after a few posts on SOLA a while back, and a post on the doubler thread and this article reminded me.

Any reason why there was 14% rise in the week before Christmas?
