As your email below covers some old ground, I can only presume that my earlier answers weren't unambiguous. I will therefore set out this response as clearly as possible.
(1) When you buy shares, you contract to pay for them and the Market Maker contracts to deliver them. Both sides have honoured their part of the bargain. There is accordingly no issue whatsoever with non-delivery of your shares and you have no cause for issue with the Market Makers.
(2) Your proof of purchase and settlement is your contract note. Please note the settlement date therein.
(3) We do not as a rule provide details of the Market Makers we use.
(4) You are the beneficial owner of your shares whether you have a share certificate or not. Your car analogy is a logical non sequitur. You are not comparing like for like. Non-provision of a certificate does not invalidate your part of the contract with the Market Makers or give you any claim against us.
(5) If, in future, you want to make sure that you receive information directly from the Registrars in relation to your holdings, you might consider opening a Crest Account. Your name would then appear on the share Register. We can send you the necessary application package upon request. Please note that your holding of Langbar, however, is frozen. This means that no certificates can currently be issued and your holding cannot be transferred into a Crest account from your nominee account. That said, your other holdings could be transferred into such an account as would any future purchases. Please note also that having a Crest account would not per se have given you any protection in this situation and that our Crest clients have been similarly affected.
