Well now, let's see. Frigg, goddess of marriage, was the wife of Odin. Friday is said to be named after her by some (Friggsday). Or is it Freya's day, after Freya, Goddess of Love, daughter of the god Njord, and married to the mysterious god Od (possibly another form of Odin)? The French form Vendredi (Venus' day) suggests that they, at least, had the goddess of love rather than marriage in mind, and the French certainly distinguish between the two.
Another name for Frigg (mentioned once in the Prose Edda and once in the Poetic Edda) is Saga. None of you will have forgotten the immortal words of the writer of the Poetic Edda:
"Sokkvabekk called is the fourth, which cool waters
ripple round about;
there Odin and Saga all their days drink,
glad from golden cups."
They certainly had a way with words, those old Norse poets.
Saga it is then, and I claim my £5.00.
