Gazprom denies making concessions to Ukraine on gas prices - Kupriyanov
Moscow, December 27 (Interfax) - Gazprom (RTS:GAZP) has denied assertions about concessions allegedly made to Ukraine over gas prices for 2006.
"This is absolutely untrue. It's utter rubbish. No confirmations have been provided or can be provided on our part about a step-by-step switchover to market relations. It's an intention to take money out of our pocket," Gazprom spokesman Sergei Kupriyanov told Interfax.
Earlier on Tuesday Ukrainian Fuel and Energy Minister Ivan Plachkov said that Russia had accepted a Ukraine-proposed plan for a step-by-step transition to new principles of relations in the gas area.
"Russia is proposing a transitional period, not European relations," Plachkov said.
Ukraine suggested holding negotiations in the first quarter of 2006 to agree upon all aspects of a gradual switch to new cooperation principles by 2010, he said. Ukraine wants the price for Russian gas delivered to Ukraine as payment for Russian gas transit to be raised to $80 for 1,000 cubic meters for January-March, while the transit tariff should be increased to $1.75 for the transportation of 1,000 cubic meters of gas for every 100 kilometers, Plachkov said.
Ukraine also proposes setting the reference price for gas at $65 for 1,000 cubic meters, he said. "It has been the average price for Russian gas delivered to Ukraine over the past decade," Plachkov said.
