Dawson is one of the last remaining UK-based textiles companies, specialising in cashmere and bed linen.
Its fortunes have been threadbare of late, suffering from high cashmere prices, overseas competition and Chinese quotas. Dawson was forced earlier this year to unpick cashmere cardigans it had knitted in China, send the yarn to Japan to be reknitted and then ship them to the UK. Madness.
But things are looking up. It is raising £1.5m through a placing and has moved into the black for the first nine months of the year. It is a good niche company enjoying a turnaround. At 8¼p the shares are a risky buy.
