iPod loading on PC - 'Unknown device' message. Solution please!!

I would have posted this on the PC thread, but it's urgent and I want to get as many viewers as possible. Hence the FBB read/write option too.

My niece got an iPod for Christmas. After loading the software the computer pops up with an 'Unknown device' error message when the iPod is connected.

I have Googled the problem and can't find a definitive answer. But, this problem has evidently been experienced by thousands.

Any idea how to get round it and make the PC find the drivers?
