Avoid the crowds, log on for the Christmas Day sales

Hundreds of thousands of Britons will spend Christmas Day sitting in front of their computers shopping for bargains, the retail industry predicted yesterday.

A record number of shops are launching end-of-year sales tomorrow in an attempt to attract customers away from their normal festive routines.
