Afternoon all. New to this thread. Hold quite a lot of these, and am nursing a significant loss after the unwelcome verdict inquest. I have to say that as a medical bod (year 4 higher surgical trainee) the decision strikes me as extremely conjectural - and not really based on evidence. I would like to know more about the case itself. If the patient had terminal stages of MS then she would have been on a shed load of drugs including (probably - and obviously I am guessing here) baclofen, possibly gabapentin, possibly a tricyclic antidepressant, intermittent antibiotics, and so on and so on. Severe MS is associated with confusion, altered conscious level, immobility (obviously) often pressure sores, often recurrent urinary tract infections and so on. To lay partial blame for her demise on Sativex, short term, low dose strikes me as pure guesswork.
Quite agree that the Sun Newspaper headline is a shameful misrepresentation of the actual situation, but no great surprise given that the "journalists" (in the worst possible sense) are all congenitally stupid f*ckwits incapable of stringing 2 or 3 words together without the addition of "PHWOOAARR BLIMEY SORDID THREE IN A BED SHOCK HORROR SCANDAL" or similar.
There is a HUGE drive to get Sativex licensed by patients, neurologists, pain clinic specialists and so on. The argument that it is "thin end of the wedge for cannabis" is pure bullsh*t. We already use countless Class 1 drugs. So what?
Anyway - rant over!! If anyone knows more about the precise details of the case I would be interested to know.
