Drivers are paying more at the pump today. KGMB9 saw several station prices at $2.85 and higher.
Prices at many gas stations jumped 11 cents overnight. That's because the stations are now paying a general excise tax on ethanol-blended fuel. That price is being passed onto consumers.
"I am aware that it's going to go up 11 cents. I just wasn't aware it was going to expire by the end of the year," said Honolulu resident Eugene Gonsalves.
The four percent tax was suspended back in April to encourage more stations to shift over to ethanol. That suspension expired at midnight.
