doobydave,
FDI aquired the 7.3 percent directly from an ex AFD director, Leon Daniels, so AFD had no say in the matter.
The article also mentions Mark Scowcroft's remaining holding, but fails to mention that De Beers have a pre emption on this
On the 5/10/05 FDI made this statement, which is pretty unequivocal, IMHO.
--------------
"The Company regards the acquisition as a strategic investment and does not
intend to make an offer for African Diamonds."
--------------
So maybe the writer is being presumptious?,. or maybe there really is something going on here?
I do not think there is any chance of a merger, both companies have very different management styles and quality IMHO.
I invested in FDI because of the management quality, and not in AFD, for the same reason!
In the short term we may see a run up in AFD's SP, the run up to the two AGM's could be interesting!
