I am puzzled. Given that "Last October, Firestone acquired almost 4.9 million shares, or 7.3 per cent of African Diamonds, by offering one Firestone share for every 2.6 shares held in African Diamonds", how could this be transacted without AFD's full co-operation?
AFD would not have played ball if they thought they were now going to be subject to a hostile bid. This latest 'revelation' makes no sense, unless of course Firestone has acted deceptively and in bad faith. A merger, however, looks a lot more attractive given the apparent synergies.
