nick,
The MM's will always try and run a square book in smaller companies, or skew it on the basis of the business they have on, i.e if they have a buyer around, they might keep a decent long position on their books. If new buyers emege, and they are not T traders the shares are likely to edge upwards. If they are T traders the shares are likely to go up quickly, but the price isn't usually sustainable as the stock is likely to come out again. As we saw previously when good news was imminent a lot of buyers came in, but this didn't lead to a rise in the SP, as there was a large seller in the wings.
