SAN FRANCISCO (AFX) -- February natural gas dropped 43.5 cents, or 3.9%, to
$10.79 per million British thermal units Tuesday after trading at a low of
$10.75, its lowest level since August 25. "The market was overdue for a
correction, after sliding steeply from a peak of $15.78 just over two weeks
ago," said Michael Fitzpatrick, an analyst at Fimat USA. Meanwhile, February
crude climbed $1.03 to $62.07 a barrel. It touched a more than two-week high of
$62.15. Traders will have to wait until Thursday for an update on U.S. petroleum
supplies. The data will be released a day late due to Monday's New Year's
holiday.
