LONDON, December 21 (newratings.com) – Chinese computer maker Lenovo Group Ltd (ticker: LHL) Wednesday named former Dell Inc executive William J Amelio as its new chief executive and president, with immediate effect.
Lenovo Group, which became the world's third-largest personal computer maker after its $1.25 billion acquisition of IBM's personal computing business earlier this year, said that Amelio would replace its outgoing CEO, Steve Ward. Amelio, 48, would resign as Dell’s senior vice president with immediate effect. Bloomberg quoted Lenovo’s Chairman Yang Yuanqing as saying, "We are now entering into a new phase, a profitable growth phase, and our board wants to see more aggressive growth in this period… Mr Amelio has the perfect background to lead us on the path to profitable growth. He has extensive operating experience and understands IBM and the PC division."
