HONG KONG (XFN-ASIA) - Malaysian budget carrier AirAsia Bhd has agreed to
double an existing order for 100 Airbus jetliners to meet its growth plans, the
Wall Street Journal reported, citing a person familiar with the matter.
The new order, for an additional 100 single-aisle A320s -- valued at 6.7 bln
usd based on list prices - could be announced as early as next week, the report
said.
AirAsia expects to take delivery of the new batch starting in 2012 and
plans to use them to increase flight frequencies and serve new destinations in
the region, it cited the source as saying.
It was not clear if an option that AirAsia already holds for 30 more A320s
is to be included in the new order, the report said.
