Shavian - Azalea, Good comments.
Getting back to the drilling days for this well and 45 days for 2000 plus metres. I suspect that a fair percentage of this time is calculated, to near approach target depth. 1. In theory rock compresssive strenght will be high at this depth - they may have programed a multi core drilling program - 2. plus, maybe the mud weight is increased significantly as well, based on mud log gas analysis, to prevent a gas-kick.
1 & 2 would decrease ROP rate of penetration and of course a coring program involves a round trip out of the hole, for each core sample. This call is usually made by the geologist.
Just a bit of surmising here, maybe I'm off base, just wanted to add to the discussion.
