Ukraine To Buy 40 Billion Cubic Meters Of Turkmen Gas At USD 50 Per 1,000 Cubic Meters In 2006
Ukraine and Turkmenistan have agreed that Ukraine will buy 40 billion cubic meters of Turkmen gas at USD 50 per 1,000 cubic meters in 2006.
President Viktor Yuschenko said this in his interview with the First National, 1+1 and Inter television companies on Friday.
He said the agreement was made with President Saparmurat Niyazov in mid-December and it sets the volumes, the price and delivery schedule.
Ukraine will start buying Turkmen gas at the agreed price in January.
"It is more than half of the gas balance that Ukraine needs next year," he said.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, during the talks between Ukraine's Fuel and Energy Minister Ivan Plachkov and Turkmenistan's Minister of Oil and Gas Industry and Mineral Resources Atamurad Berdiyev in Ashkhabad, Turkmenistan, on December 13 Turkmenistan stated its intention to raise the price at which it delivers natural gas to Ukraine by USD 16 to USD 60 per 1,000 cubic meters in 2006
