With such a huge installed base (and still growing at a vast rate) the current standard dvd format is going to be a tough nut to crack for next-gen systems for a long while yet. On top of that, the format war between HD & BluRay will only extend the standard format's lifespan while people wait to see which one 'wins' before forking out their hard-earned on a new system.
