TMmy, the world’s first virtual pop star will take time out of her busy schedule and promoting her single, to launch a glittering new learning café at Glasgow Caledonian University on Tuesday 4 December 2001.

Real @ Caledonian combines technology enhanced learning facilities in a café style environment where students can study in a welcoming and relaxing environment ­ or just check their e-mails ­ on any one of over 60 computer terminals. The café has state-of the-art embedded technology, wire free portable computers and a coffee shop, providing an informal setting for lifelong learners to engage in group study.

Les Watson, Director of Learning and Information Resources at the University, said today:

"Glasgow Caledonian is proud of its reputation for providing accessible learning for all and Real @ Caledonian will enhance this reputation by providing a modern facility where students can benefit from both collaborative and peer group learning.

"By adding technology into the mix, the University is creating an environment in which learning is based on social interaction and supported by information technology, although not dominated by it."

TMmy will make her special large plasma screen appearance at the launch after being introduced by Principal and Vice-Chancellor, Dr Ian Johnston, and tell the invited audience that she is delighted to pop in to the University to be part of the launch celebrations.
