African find boosts Dana


DANA Petroleum, the Scottish oil and gas explorer, has discovered "significant" oil and gas reserves off west Africa.

The Aberdeen-based firm’s first well in the region, named Pelican-1, is being drilled off the coast of Mauritania.

Dana chief Tom Cross said: "We are delighted that our first exploration well offshore Mauritania has discovered a substantial hydrocarbon column."

Mr Cross said Dana would begin a "comprehensive analysis" of the Pelican-1 data.
