BT Launches Mobile Top-Up Kiosks
By Alan Jones, PA Industrial Correspondent
Self-service kiosks allowing people to top up mobile phones or buy new ringtones and logos will be trialled in parts of the UK in the New Year, telecoms giant BT has announced.
The kiosks have already been tested in Milton Keynes, Basingstoke and Derby, and will now be extended to shopping centres and retail outlets across the UK.
Paul Hendron, director of BT Payphones, said: “The new kiosks are easy to use and allow customers to top up their phones and buy the latest mobile content when it’s convenient for them.
“We also have plans to develop these kiosks to provide other products such as international calling cards and music downloads.”
BT has signed a deal with digital communications group Retec Interface to increase the number of kiosks.
Richard Barnett of Retec said: “The kiosks offer a fast and efficient service, and will save customers time by allowing them to bypass the shop queue to top up their mobile or purchase other services.”
