Christmas - Vodafone processed 64 million text messages
Despite the high volume of traffic over the Christmas period, voice calls, text messages and multimedia messages were processed normally on the Vodafone network.
Vodafone's SMS service processed some 64 million text messages on 24 and 25 December, an increase of around 21% on the same period last year. Vodafone also processed around 420,000 multimedia messages on those days. The heaviest message traffic occurred between 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. on 24 December.
Anticipating a significant rise in the number of calls and messages over the Christmas period, Vodafone had reinforced its call processing capacity (especially in the major cities) and the capacity of its text message (SMS) and multimedia message (MMS) transmission platforms.
