The yield of jatropha is 1590kg/ha or 202gal/acre which is better
than rapeseed at 1000kg/ha or 127gal/acre
From the Bell Lawrie note:
The company has 267,000 hectares of land contracted for its initial planting programme, up seven fold from the Admission document in November 2004. Additionally, the company has 9.2mln hectares (increase of 56% since Admission) of land under option for planting.
High Productivity
The company is planting a density of approximately 2,200 Jatropha trees per hectare and its projections have been modelled on a ten per cent gestation failure and an average yield of approximately 3.5kg of Jatropha seeds per annum for each tree. However, the company have observed stronger yields of approximately 6.5 kg per tree per annum in areas of higher rainfall.
So lets say they only get 1000kg or 1 ton of jatropha oil per hectare x 0.8 (biodiesel yield) = 0.8 tonnes of biodiesel x 267,000 = 213,600 tonnes of biodiesel per annum at €650 per tonne) = Thats over €130 million in sales per annum from just the initial planting programme.
