LOL, Scrib... I did think about that, actually... but I remembered it was really the mining communities (rather than the steel-making communities) that had the most in common with the old tied-cottage textile-mill era of the Industrial Revothingummy. ;)
I am old enough to remember steel towns like Corby and Sheffield, too... but then I am forty next week, so I guess that explains why :(
But like the towns, I think the days of those kinds of megalithic unions are long gone, thanks in the main to one Mrs T, a few years back.
A thought crosses my (not-entirely-serious) mind... can we expect the result of this merger to be an organisation focussed on the fair and equitable production of Steel Wool and Brillo Pads? :) Or are we going back to Chain Mail and Suits of Armour?
