Corus and Salzgitter collaborate on ‘High Strength and Ductility Steel’ development
20th December 2005
High Strength and Ductility Steel (HSD) due to be launched next year by Corus and Salzgitter promises, according to Illinois Institute of Technology professor and Society of Automotive Engineers member Professor Joe Benedyk, to offer manufacturers a new combination of light weight, deformation resistance and potentially, easier collision repairs than are possible with other high strength steels. The latter cannot be stretched back into shape after bending.
Corus itself has yet to announce the launch date or full properties of the new steel.
