I had heard it was only 15% survive past year 1.

It's a pretty sad statistic; most of that 80% that did not make it would have had to demonstrate to their broker that they had some investment skills!..

Ie., they made money investing,
... but lost money margin trading.

Can you imagine.. 80% of former margin traders reccomending to their friends and associates that they do not take up margin trading.. If every "Loser" tells 10 people to stay away, who tell 5 people about a friend who lost money.. who tell 5 people about a friend .. etc.. very bad for the market.

I think if brokers were a bit more lenient on their customers; properly taught them, provided subsidized charting & L2 and honestly helped them to make money, it would attract hundreds more people to trading every day. This would be good for us all.
