Wall Street metals - Gold climbs for fourth session
NEW YORK (AFX) - Gold futures rose for a fourth day Wednesday, extending
their gains above the $510 an ounce level.
"Gold has corrected nicely and is now ready to begin working higher into the
New Year with the recent highs around $540 a likely target faster than most
people think," said Peter Grandich, editor of The Grandich Letter.
Gold for February delivery was last trading up $2.90 at $513 an ounce on the
New York Mercantile Exchange. Other metals were also higher, with silver up 3.80
cents at $8.85 an ounce, platinum up $6.60 at $972 an ounce and palladium
gaining $2 to $260 an ounce.
Copper added 0.20 cent to $2.0695 a pound.
On the supply side, copper inventories rose 348 short tons to 6,404 as of
late Tuesday, according to Nymex. Gold supplies were unchanged at 7.18 million
short tons, while silver stocks were flat at 119.9 million short tons.
