CeNeS starts New Year
Erogenous Jones - Fri, 30 Dec 05 :
Surgery was offered to me but I have resisted such procedure. I no longer compete at International level in my chosen sport (karate) but do compete at National level and the perceived thought of having a bag strapped to my waist which ruptures during a fight is too horrid (and comical) for this to be a serious consideration.
Besides, the teams that tend to treat patients fall into 2 distinct camps - the medical team recommend treatment through drugs while the surgical team stress the value of the knife. Were I less fit, had a more sedantary lifestyle with children who were at university rather than having the elder son just started at secondary school and the younger with another year at primary school, then surgery is attractive.
As it is, my recent (10 December) colonoscopy suggests that the entire colon would need to be removed - besides, I wouldn't be considered a complete a***hole ever again, would I?
EDIT - for those who have no idea of the pain of UC, those ladies I have met who have UC equate the pain as equivalent to childbirth - the difference being that with childbirth there is a finite timescale, whereas UC can last weks and sometime months. The longest that I have spent in the past in hospital is 6 months! during that time I counted the number of jabs I received - 186, most were for pain relief.
