CSFB sees Dec. auto sales declining
NEW YORK (AFX) -- CS First Boston analyst Christopher Ceraso believes
overall light vehicle sales for December will be 16.5 million to 16.8 million
units, down from 18 million in the same period a year ago, but up from 15.7
million in November. For General Motors , Ceraso sees December sales falling 12%
to 14% below year-ago levels, and sees market share declining 1.5 percentage
points to 26%. He expects Ford Motor to report a December sales decline of 8% to
10%, with market share remaining in line at 17.6%. For DaimlerChrysler's
Chrysler Group, Ceraso expects sales to drop 6% to 8%, which would be in line
with the industry average. GM's stock, a component of the Dow industrials, was
down 14 cents at $18.47 in Instinet pre-open trading while DaimlerChrysler edged
up 45 cents to $51.82. Ford's shares were inactive in Instinet.
