On the second line, Burren Energy remained the worst performer, down 45 pence to 840 after the shock death of Turkmenistan president, Saparmurat Niyazov, overnight.
Dealers said Burren has invested heavily in the former Soviet republic and Niyazov's death leads to uncertainty in the region.
"There's nothing [about the recent events in Turkmenistan] that will give rise to any particular fears at the present time," chief finance officer Andrew Rose told AFX News in a phone interview.
