"A bit of luck" yes, but more valuable is the ability to react to or take advantage of any kind of luck, good or bad, with lightning fast speed -- to capitalize on the opportunies presented by good luck and pick up the pieces after bad luck, and in all cases keeping focused on where you want to be and how you're going to get there. Someone said once that what many call good luck, professionally speaking, comes from being prepared, alert, realistic and appropriately flexible. I think there's a lot of truth to that view.
